Five centuries of the Spanish Navy, from the Catholic Monarchs in the 15th century to the present day, are the subject of the Naval Museum (Museo Naval) in Madrid. Founded in 1792, it is one of the National Museums of Spain and is attached to the Ministry of Defence.
The displays set naval history within the wider history of the Spanish Empire. The collections include navigation instruments, weapons, maps and paintings, which suit visitors with an interest in Spain's naval and imperial past.
