China's national art museum, known on signs as 中国美术馆 (China Art Museum) and often abbreviated NAMOC, is one of the largest art museums in the country. It is a level-1 public welfare institution funded by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The building, designed by the architect Dai Nianci, was constructed between 1958 and 1962, and the museum opened in 1963. It stands on a site of 30,000 square metres in Beijing's Jingshan Subdistrict. A renovation completed in January 2005 added a further 5,375 square metres.
