The life and work of Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's national poet and also a painter, are the sole focus of this museum in Kyiv, which appears in Ukrainian as Національний музей Тараса Шевченка. It was founded in 1940, and it is housed in a building designated an architectural monument of national significance of Ukraine. Its dedication to Shevchenko as both writer and artist makes it a natural stop for visitors drawn to Ukrainian poetry and painting.
