Twice, in 2007 and 2009, the PinchukArtCentre officially represented Ukraine at the Venice Biennale. This private centre for 21st-century contemporary art in Kyiv was opened on 16 September 2006 by the steel billionaire Victor Pinchuk.
Its mission is to exhibit new artistic production and to collect national and international contemporary art. Visitors find work by Ukrainian and international artists drawn from an international collection and shown alongside temporary exhibitions. The centre also runs education programmes, produces publications and carries out scholarly research, which makes it suited to those interested in current art from Ukraine and beyond.
