More than 33,000 items make up the collection of Portugal's National Museum of Costume, signposted locally as the Museu Nacional do Traje e da Moda. Men's and women's costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries form most of the collection, making it a national museum devoted to fashion and dress.
Founded in 1977, the museum occupies the Monteiro-Mor Palace in Lisbon, a building within a protected heritage site.
