Run by a membership of almost four hundred recognized artists, the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana (Hall of Mexican Fine Art) is dedicated to promoting Mexican contemporary art. It holds multiple exhibitions each year, giving visitors a view of work by the artists who make up the institution.
The Salón was established in 1949 to expand the Mexican art market. It first occupied a location in the historic centre of Mexico City and today operates mostly from a building in Colonia Roma. Although it runs autonomously, it is part of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura, Mexico's national institute of fine arts and literature.
