As South Africa's national art gallery, the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town holds an authoritative collection of sculpture and beadwork alongside contemporary art selected from many of the country's communities.
Much of the historical collection consists of Dutch, French and British works from the 17th to the 19th century, including lithographs and etchings, along with some early 20th-century British paintings. The range suits visitors interested in both European art and South African work.
Since 2001 the gallery has been part of Iziko, the group of museums managed by the national Department of Arts and Culture.
