Musical instruments from all over the world, the oldest dating from the 16th century, make up the collection of the Danish Music Museum (Musikmuseet). It shares its building at Rosenørns Allé 22 in Copenhagen with the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the country's leading music conservatory.
Alongside the instruments, the museum keeps a library devoted to Danish musical life. It holds works by composers such as Niels Gade and material on musicians such as the singer Aksel Schiøtz.
Founded in 1898, the museum was once known as the Musikhistorisk Museum and the Carl Claudius Samling. Today it is part of the National Museum of Denmark.
