Housed in the former Burgwies tram depot, the Zurich Tram Museum (Tram-Museum Zürich) is devoted entirely to the history of the city's own tram system. The museum is listed as a Swiss cultural property of national significance, in the highest class A category.
The museum dates from 1968 and is run by the Verein Tram Museum Zürich, an association of some 500 members who look after the exhibits. The historic tram cars on display still belong to the Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich, the city-owned company that operates Zurich's trams today. Besides the main site at Burgwies, the association maintains a workshop at Wartau, a much smaller former tram depot.
