Planned between 1914 and 1923 through the efforts of Wilhelm von Bode and to designs by Bruno Paul, the Dahlem museum complex (Museen Dahlem) was not built until half a century later. Fritz Bornemann and Wils Ebert completed it between 1969 and 1973 in the New Objectivity style, and the building is now a listed architectural monument.
The complex originally housed the Ethnological Museum, including the collections that later became the Museum of Asian Art, as well as the Gemäldegalerie, which moved to new premises in 1998. In 2011 the Museum Europäischer Kulturen (Museum of European Cultures) moved into the building.
The official address is 8 Lansstraße in the Dahlem district, but the main entrance is at 25 Arnimallee.
