Everyday life in Europe, rather than its fine art, is the subject of the Museum of European Cultures (Museum Europäischer Kulturen, or MEK). It concentrates on the lived-in world of Europe and on contact between European cultures, predominantly in Germany from the 18th century to the present. Part of the National Museums in Berlin, it was formed in 1999 by uniting the Europe department of the Berlin Museum of Ethnography with the Berlin Museum for Folklore.
The museum shares the Dahlem Museums complex in Steglitz-Zehlendorf with the Ethnological Museum of Berlin and the Museum of Asian Art. Its exhibition rooms occupy the oldest building in the complex, named after the architect Bruno Paul (1874–1968).
