Artifacts from China's national Palace Museum at the Forbidden City in Beijing fill the galleries of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, a public art and history museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Its building was designed by Rocco Design Architects.
Construction began in April 2019, and the museum opened on 3 July 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong. The project drew criticism from civil society because the government decided to build it without first holding a public consultation. A six-week consultation followed, but it invited views only on the museum's design and operation, not on whether it should be built.
