The oldest park in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens is also one of the oldest zoological and botanical centres in the world. It was founded in 1864, and its first stage opened to the public in 1871.
The gardens cover 5.6 hectares on the northern slope of Victoria Peak, off Albany Road in Central. Zoo, botanical garden and urban park in one, they offer a natural setting much like nearby Hong Kong Park. Although they are physically smaller than Hong Kong Park, they hold more plants, animals and facilities.
