Scandinavia's largest zoo spreads across forested hillsides above Bråviken bay near Norrköping, and its signature feature is a cable car that carries visitors high over the enclosures of large savannah and forest animals. Known locally as Kolmårdens djurpark, the park opened in 1965 and draws more than 600,000 visitors a year.
On foot, paths wind between enclosures for animals from several continents, with species such as giraffes, lions and tigers among the best known. The park also runs Sweden's only dolphinarium, and its dolphin shows have long been one of its main attractions. Alongside the animals are amusement rides, including the wooden roller coaster Wildwood, and a children's area themed on the Swedish cartoon bear Bamse.
The mix of wildlife and rides makes the park especially popular with families. The grounds are large and hilly, and most visitors spend a full day here.
