Ukraine's national memorial to the victims of the Holodomor, the man-made famine of 1932–1933 that killed millions in Ukraine, the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide (Національний музей Голодомору-геноциду) serves as both a museum and a hall of memory. It is formerly known as the Memorial in Commemoration of the Holodomor-Genocide in Ukraine, a name that may still appear in some references.
The museum opened in 2008, on the day of the famine's 75th anniversary, and became a national museum in 2010. It stands on the Pechersk Hills on the right bank of the Dnieper River, next to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, and receives nearly half a million visitors a year.
