A giant Ericsson cell phone belonging to the Cape Town Science Centre is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest working cell phone. The not-for-profit science centre in Observatory is part of a wider range of out-of-classroom efforts to improve science understanding and science literacy in South Africa.
The centre was formerly known as the MTN Sciencentre and was based in the Canal Walk shopping mall until early 2010. It reopened at its current home in Observatory in 2011.
