Founded by the Hungarian Parliament in 1872, the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest (Iparművészeti Múzeum) is the third-oldest applied arts museum in the world. Its collection focuses on applied arts, the design and decoration of functional objects, and gathers both historical and contemporary work from Hungary and around the world.
The museum's Art Nouveau building on Üllői út, in District IX, was designed by Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos and is on Hungary's tentative list for World Heritage status. It suits visitors interested in design and decorative arts as well as those drawn to Art Nouveau architecture.
