Polish painting from the 16th century onward is at the core of the National Museum in Poznań (Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu). The museum is state-owned and one of the largest in Poland. Its painting galleries also hold Italian, Spanish, Dutch and German works.
Beyond painting, the museum keeps numismatic collections of coins, medals and related objects, and a gallery of applied arts. Founded in 1857, it suits visitors interested in Polish art over several centuries alongside European painting.
