As the final resting place of Nikola Tesla and the keeper of his archive, the Nikola Tesla Museum (Музеј Николе Тесле, Muzej Nikole Tesle) holds a place no other science museum can claim. Founded in 1952, it is devoted to the life and work of the inventor.
Its holdings are vast: more than 160,000 original documents, over 2,000 books and journals, more than 1,200 historical technical exhibits, over 1,500 photographs and photo plates of original technical objects, instruments and apparatus, and more than 1,000 plans and drawings. In 2003 the Nikola Tesla Archive was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register for its importance to the history of the world's electrification and to future advances in the field. Only a small part of this material is on display, in a modest ground-floor exhibition space.
The museum's building was designed by the architect Dragiša Brašovan and is designated a Monument of Culture.
