Housed in the former Kino Światowid, a once state-owned cinema in Kraków's Nowa Huta district, the PRL Museum (Muzeum PRL-u) documented the forty-year history of the communist People's Republic of Poland. Alongside its exhibitions on the period, it took visitors into the nuclear bunkers of Nowa Huta.
The museum began in 2008 as a department of the Museum of Polish History in Warsaw. In November 2012 Kraków's city council decided to replace it with an independent museum run by the city, which opened in the old cinema building. The PRL Museum closed in 2019, and the Nowa Huta Museum now occupies the same site.
