Built in 1863 by Maeda Nariyasu, the 13th daimyō of the Kaga clan, as a retirement home for his mother Shinryu-in, Seisonkaku (成巽閣) is a large villa in Kanazawa. A collection of her personal effects is on display.
The villa is a buke yashiki, a samurai-class residence, built in the shoin-zukuri style, a form of Japanese residential architecture centred on formal reception rooms with alcoves and built-in shelves. It is designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan and a Place of Scenic Beauty. The house suits visitors interested in traditional Japanese architecture and in the domestic life of the Maeda family who ruled Kaga.
