China's first city planning exhibition hall, the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center (上海城市规划展示馆) was founded in 2000 and devotes itself to urban planning. Similar halls later became common in major cities and new towns across China.
The center stands on People's Square, next to the municipal government building, and draws about five million visitors a year.
