The museum occupies the family house of the Belgrade artist Ljubica Luković, sister of the painter Nadežda Petrović and the writer Rastko Petrović. Built between 1928 and 1935 as a typical house of the Professors' colony, the house and the land around it were declared a cultural monument in 1974, and the museum was founded in 1975.
Its exhibition presents the Petrović family legacy, which Ljubica Luković collected and donated to the National Museum in Belgrade. It covers the lives and work of three family members: the writer and scholar Mito Petrović (1852–1911), Nadežda Petrović (1873–1915) and Rastko Petrović (1898–1949). Visitors find paintings and sketches by Nadežda, private correspondence between family members, works of art and objects that belonged to Rastko, travel films, records and other personal items.
The museum suits visitors interested in Serbian painting and literature and in the domestic world of an artistic family.
