Two founding figures of modern Serbian culture share this memorial museum (Музеј Вука и Доситеја): Vuk Stefanović Karadžić (1787–1864), the reformer of the Serbian language, and Dositej Obradović (1742–1811), a writer who became the country's first Minister of Education. The museum presents the life, work and legacy of both men and is counted among the most important memorial museums in Belgrade.
Housed in a historic building listed as Immovable Cultural Heritage of Exceptional Importance, the museum was founded in 1949 and has been run by the National Museum of Serbia since 1979. It is a key place for understanding the revival of Serbian culture at the time of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire. It suits visitors interested in Serbian language, literature and history.
