The Archbishop's Palace (Erkebispegården) in Trondheim houses the Armoury, known on signs as Rustkammeret. Founded in 1826, it serves today as both a Norwegian army museum and a resistance museum, with a particular emphasis on the military history of Trøndelag.
The displays of weapons, uniforms and other artifacts span roughly a thousand years. They begin in the Viking Age and continue through the Middle Ages, Norway's union with Denmark from 1380 to 1814 and its later union with Sweden from 1814 to 1905. The story ends with the German occupation of Norway during World War II, from 1940 to 1945.
The museum suits visitors interested in military history, especially how the conflicts and political unions of the past shaped the Trøndelag region, and in Norway's wartime resistance.
