Norway's third largest public art collection, with an emphasis on art made since 1850, belongs to the Trondheim Art Museum (Trondheim Kunstmuseum, formerly Trøndelag Kunstgalleri). Among its best-known works are Harald Sohlberg's Natt (Røros church) from 1904, Peder Balke's Nordkapp from the 1870s and Georg Jacobsen's Haren from 1922.
The museum presents temporary exhibitions of international and regional art alongside works from its own collection. It has two venues: TKM Bispegata, near Nidaros Cathedral, and TKM Gråmølna at Nedre Elvehavn.
The main building at Bispegata 7 b was designed by architect Peter Daniel Hofflund and completed in 1930. Its two floors hold rooms of varied sizes and light. A refurbishment in 2012 restored much of the interior to its original 1930 state. It also added artificial lighting to keep temperature and light conditions stable.
