The International Centre of Graphic Arts (Mednarodni grafični likovni center) was founded in 1986 to give the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts a home of its own. The biennial itself has run without interruption since 1955, and for most of the centre's history its director was Zoran Kržišnik.
The main collection holds more than four thousand prints by international modernist artists, including Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Nancy Spero, Mangelos, Ivan Picelj, Dóra Maurer, Malle Leis and Osip Zadkin. Slovenian printmaking is especially well represented, with complete or partial bodies of work by Lojze Spacal, Vladimir Makuc, Danilo Jejčič, Janez Bernik and Tinca Stegovec, among the country's finest printmakers.
A second collection, founded in 2000, gathers prints and original printed ephemera such as posters and fanzines. It includes every artistic newspaper project by the Vienna museum known as in progress, published in the daily Der Standard from 1990 to 2002, and all issues of the hybrid newspaper Point d'Ironie. The centre suits visitors with an interest in printmaking and the printed image.
