Founded in 1821, the National Museum of Slovenia (Narodni muzej Slovenije) shares its building with the Slovenian Museum of Natural History, and together the two form the country's oldest scientific and cultural institution. The museum stands in Ljubljana's Center district, near Tivoli City Park.
Its extensive archaeological collection is the core of the museum. The numismatics department on the ground floor displays old coins and banknotes, and further displays cover the applied arts. The museum suits visitors interested in archaeology and the history of money. In 2021 the president of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, awarded the museum the golden Order for Exceptional Merits.
