Run by the University of Chile's Faculty of Arts, the Santiago Museum of Contemporary Art (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago, or MAC) shares the grand Palacio de Bellas Artes in Parque Forestal with the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, sitting behind it in the same building. Since 2005 the museum has also had a second site in Quinta Normal Park, so visitors may find MAC in two different parts of the city.
Founded in 1947, MAC is one of Santiago's major museums and specializes in modern and contemporary art. Its work centres on the development, study and dissemination of modern art through exhibitions and other activities, as well as the care of a collection of more than two thousand pieces and files. The museum is designated a Historical Monument of Chile.
